Hey, my name is Maxfield Davis. I want to go abroad with AFS because my older brother went with AFS and and loved it. I also know it will be a really amazing experience to be able to live with a new family in a completely different country and I already know that AFS is a really amazing program to go with. When I go I would love to be able to meet new people and get new and different ideas. I also think that because I would be in a different country the way people view things would be very different from my view so I would get a new perspective and a new way to think of things. This would also allow me to view what I do differently and give me a chance to understand how other cultures see me. When I return home I would be able to give people I know different ways of doing things and new ways of thinking based on what I learned when I was abroad. I would also be able to encourage my friends to go abroad better because I would have gone abroad and so I can tell them what it's like and how amazing it is.
My family is really excited that I get to go abroad and so are my friends but my friends are kind of sad because we won't be able to see each other for a year but they're still really happy for me. For my family it's just another kid leaving because everyone in my family has left the house to go to another country at about sixteen and so we're kind of used to it but it is still exciting every time. My family is really happy I got in to the exchange though also because in middle school my grades weren't that good and didn't get good until high school and now I have almost straight A's and get to study abroad for a year. I am really looking forward to being able to study abroad and I know that this will be an amazing experience.
